Teaching young children about different weather patterns can be fun and educational with our Worksheets Pre-K Weather, which provide excellent resources for early learning.

Let's get to know our nature with these Worksheets Pre-K Weather!

What is The Definition of Weather?

Whether we realize it or not, the weather is essential in our daily lives. Almost all of our conversations are rotating around it. Some examples are as follows.

  • "The weather is nice today, huh?"
  • "It is a nice day outside. Do you fancy a walk?"
  • "Too bad it is raining outside. We cannot go to the beach."

Those sample conversations are some weather talks we often hear or say. As the weather will affect our activities, it is something that we always consider when planning on something, especially outdoor work.

According to the University Corporation for Atmospheric (UCAR), the definition of weather is a combination of events that occur in our atmosphere. Whether it is rain, heavy clouds, bright blue skies, windy air, cold snow, and stinging heat, all are the weather.

The weather conditions of each area might vary because of the differences in geographical form. It also actively changes in minutes, hours, days, and weeks. It can be sunny now, but it could rain in three minutes. Most weather activities occur in the troposphere, the part of the atmosphere closest to the Earth's surface.

How is The Weather Formed?

As the weather is something from nature that is close to us, don't you want to get to know how it is formed? Based on the Center of Science Education of UCAR, weather phenomena in a particular area are controlled by changes in atmospheric pressure (air pressure).

Atmospheric pressure is affected by the weight of the vast number of air molecules that make up the atmosphere. High pressure of the air usually makes the sky blue and clear. The high pressure causes the air to descend and fan out as it meets the ground, preventing cloud establishment.

When the pressure is low, the air flows together and goes upwards. There, it converges, rises, cools, and forms clouds. Don't forget to bring an umbrella on those days with low pressure, as these clouds can bring rain and other types of precipitation.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said that global patterns affect the weather, such as the interaction of sun radiation, large oceans, diverse geographical conditions, and movement in space. It is necessary to understand the formation process of the weather, as it will help us understand how nature works. Understanding nature is our way to respect and be thankful for what it provides for us and to keep it in the best shape for future generations.

What are The Components of Weather?

The National Centre for Atmospheric Science stated six components of the weather. They are temperature, atmospheric pressure, cloud formation, wind, humidity, and rain.

Every element has an essential role in forming the weather. Any shift in those components might affect the atmospheric conditions. Below are the explanations:

  • Temperature: Temperature determines whether the atmosphere is hot or cold. The air absorbs the heat from the sun, which affects the temperature of the Earth. However, human activities can also cause temperature changes on the surface.

  • Atmospheric Pressure: Atmospheric pressure is the air's density and weight. The temperature affects this condition. The cold air has more density than the warm ones.

  • Clouds: Clouds are apparent rabbles of water vapor in the atmosphere. They form when water evaporates from oceans and lakes, then condenses again when cooled. We can see them with bare eyes as the white cotton-like shape in the sky.

  • Wind: Wind is the motion of the air in the sky, which occurs because of the various air pressures in the atmosphere.

  • Humidity: Humidity means the amount of evaporated water in the atmosphere. Warm air contains more water vapor than cold ones. Hence, tropical climates feel sticky for some people.

  • Rain: Rain is when a billion droplets of water fall from the clouds to the Earth. Clouds contain water which can be heavy over time, and they need to release their load.

How Many Types of Weather Are There?

There are five types of weather on Earth.

  • Sunny,
  • Rainy,
  • Windy,
  • Stormy,
  • Cloudy.

However, in most cases, these weathers are overlapped. It can be sunny and rainy or windy and cloudy at once. Sunny weather means; when there is no drizzle of rain, and the sky is clear from heavy clouds, which makes the sunlight shine brightly.

Rainy is when the clouds release their water on the Earth. Windy is the weather when the air is moving at 20-30 mph speed. Stormy is windy weather but on a higher and more powerful level with lightning, thunder, and heavy rain.

Why Should Pre-K Students Learn about Weather?

  • Introducing young children to the weather is necessary as it will teach them about nature. Nature is the place they will live for the rest of their life. It also trains the students to respect and treasure what Mother Nature gave to us.
  • Studying about the weather before the students enter formal schools will help them to form a foundation for learning various lessons about it.

How to Teach Weather to Pre-K Students?

To teach weather to pre-K students, teachers, and parents can use these tips.

  • First, teach them about weather vocabulary such as cold, hot, rainy, sunny, cloudy, windy, foggy, and snowy.
  • Then, show them various pictures or illustrations about the weather.
