There are various ways of grouping plants based on their types and kinds. Here are the major plant groups based on The Plant List:
- The Angiosperms (Flowering Plants)
Angiosperms are a type of vascular plants that hold seeds with them. This type of plant has a reproductive structure where its ovules are enclosed in an ovary. Angiosperms can be found in many habitats, including the forest, grassland, sea margins, and deserts. Trees, herbs, submerged aquatics, bulbs, and epiphytes are some examples of angiosperms.
- The Gymnosperms (Conifers, cycads, and allies)

- The Pteridophytes (ferns)
Pteridophytes are vascular plants that have leaves (fronds), roots, sometimes actual stems, and full trunks of fern. They have unique traits, which is that most ferns that grow in tropical forests usually grow on other plants.
- The Bryophytes (Mosses and liverworts)
Bryophytes are tiny and nonvascular plants, but they have an important role in the environment. Bryophytes provide various nutrients and water that support other plants and keep the environment alive. They reproduce through spores, as they do not have seeds or flowers.

Understanding The Cycle of Plant Life
Most plants start their life cycle from the seeds (even though some do not). Hence, teaching young students about the most common life cycle of plants is essential as it will form a solid base of their plant knowledge. Here is the life cycle of plants that young students could start studying:
- Pollination: A process where bugs or winds help the plant to reproduce by transferring pollen from the plant's anther to the plant’s stigma, which results in fertilization and seed production.
- Seed Germination: It is a process when the seeds are planted and start to grow from the seed.
- Seedling: A seedling is a part where the plant starts to grow its sprout also known as sporophyte development. Usually, it consists of three parts: radicle, hypocotyl, and cotyledons.
- Adult plants: Adult plants are the final form of the plant life cycle when later it will grow a flower and repeat the life cycle.
