What is the Definition of a Drug?

Initially, a drug refers to a curing substance. It is medicine to avert and relieve any symptoms of sickness or afflictions. People can consume these substances through the mouth, skin patches, needles and more. Currently, "drugs" has a negative connotation since it refers to the illegal use of some substances to get delirious. According to the National Cancer Institute, from the National Institute of Health, drugs can influence how the function of the brain and body. It would make the consumer feel mood swings, sensitive thoughts, feelings and behaviour. Over a long time, it subsequently leads to unhealthy dependence and addiction. Drug addiction is fatal because it will make the person unstable and unpredictable. They can do something dangerous without thinking about the consequences.

How is Drug Made?

There are three sources of drugs, plants (tobacco, cannabis, and more), refined products from the plant (liquor, heroin, and more), and artificial chemicals (ecstasy, stimulant, and more). There are various ingredients that people mix into drugs. However, there are two types of content, active and inactive essences. Active ingredients are the stuff that will affect the body and mind. Meanwhile, inactive ingredients contain confining supplements, pill caps, colouring agents, formaldehyde, flavour additive, and more. Drugs with legal authorization will list all their ingredients in the wrapper to let the consumer know what they take. However, illegal drugs could contain various ingredients without proper dose and measurement, which will endanger your body once you consume them.

There are various ways people consume drugs. They could consume it orally (through the mouth), inhale, puff, inject the drugs and more. The way the human body sponge up the essence also varies. The body can absorb the substances through the lining of the stomach, lungs, nasal, skin, bloodstream, and more. However, no matter how you take these drugs, they will ruin and affect your body dangerously.             

What is Relapse?

Excessive consumption of drugs could lead to a relapse. What is relapse? According to the Alcohol and Drug Foundation, relapse is a moment part of drug recovery. This moment could happen because the resurgence process from drugs takes a long time, and the person can go back to their bad habit. When our brain used to feel euphoric because of some stuff, it could suggest we use them again. Sometimes, the person could ignore the urge and win the silent fight. However, there is a time when they give up and fall into temptation. This condition is known as relapse.

Various situations could lead someone to relapse. It is because of the tight string between substance addiction and individual challenges. Relapse could create trouble at work and in the relationship and triggers various emotional and psychological problems. Below are some causes of the fallback:

  • Circumstances which dare a person to use the drug again.
  • A bad situation could trigger the person to use the drug as a coping mechanism.
  • Emotional or physical issues.
  • Guilt because of lapsing.

Why Should We Avoid Drugs?

Illegal drug use is alarming these days. As adults, we would want to protect our children and students from its dangers. As social media develops, it is getting easier for teenagers to find their way into purchasing these substances. Curiosity could lead them to take risks. It could be a one-time trial; however, they also could get addicted to the euphoric feeling and fall into the hell hole. Below are some reasons why we should protect our kids from drug usage:

  • Lead to physical and psychological dependence.
  • Purchasing drugs requires a lot of money, and sometimes this will make people take the risk of committing crimes.
  • Decrease health quality.
  • Excessive use of the drug could lead to fatal accidents.
  •  Consuming illegal substances will automatically put people to deal with the cops.
  • There are many examples of how the drug could ruin someone's life in terms of career, family, friendship, relationship, finance, health, and more.
  • Overdose. 

How to Guide Children to Avoid Drugs?

The teenage era is when they become curious and want to try various things. Parents and teachers are responsible for protecting and guiding their kids from these dangerous substances. It will be better for the parents to teach the students since kids about the danger of drugs. Firstly, ensure the talk about drugs is appropriate for the kids' age. Teach them the simple definition of drugs and where they come from. Tell the children how the substance could affect the body and mind in a dangerous way. Parents should build a strong bond with their children to make them trust their parents. Through this trust, children will not be afraid to tell their parents about anything, and this will make the parents could take quick action if something happens.
