So, why is African American History Month celebrated every February? So, Woodson chose February because it was the birthday of Presidents Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass.

The celebration was a weekly celebration. However, it was changed to a monthly event. So, students in America will celebrate it for one month in February every year.
