What is the Meaning of Christmas Day?

Christmas Day is one of the biggest holidays in the world. There are millions of people celebrating on the 25th of December every year. The festive and joyful ambience makes this day exceptional and perfect for a celebration. Many people spend this holiday with their families and relatives. Christmas is a celebration marking the birth of Jesus Christ on the 25th of December as a spiritual and cultural celebration among billions of people. According to Cambridge Dictionary, Christmas is a holy day to celebrate Jesus Christ's birth.

For thousands of years, people have celebrated this day as a moment to share happiness and a pious moment to be thankful. The English word Christmas (mass on Christ’s day) is of relatively current origin. At first, the early Christians distinguished between the actual date of Christ's birth and the celebration. The precise observance of His birth was long in coming. There was strong opposition regarding recognizing the birthdays of Jesus. Some Church Fathers thought that the birthday of a saint should be on the day of his martyrdom. The 25th of December was first identified as the date of Christ's birth by Sextus Julius Africanus in 221 and later became the universally accepted date.

How to Introduce Christmas to Young Children?

Children love Christmas. It is a fact that everyone would agree. They get a holiday with unlimited yummy meals, cute-wrapped gifts, and family gatherings. They also get to play, and there is no homework. No wonder they are so in spirit. It is heartwarming to see the kids excited and happy. However, parents also should teach them about the meaning and valuable message behind the celebration. The reason is that parents are the most influential figure in guiding their children's religious journey. Young kids who have not developed a spiritual need might need help and guidance from the adults around them. The parents can use various strategies to introduce them to religious activities. One of the moments parents can utilize is Christmas Day. It will make the kids have fun and learn something at once. Parents can tell the students the story about Christ's birth and other stories from the Bible.

Why Should We Celebrate Christmas?

Christmas is one of the most influential events in the world, and it is an important day for Christians. The purpose is to monumentalize the birth of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem. Christians celebrate Christmas because the birth of Jesus Christ is good news. The angel who brought the news also stated that Jesus Christ’s birth would bring 'great joy' to many people. He will be the saviour and saint for the people. There are three titles for Jesus Christ, saint, Messiah and Lord. Here are some reasons why it is necessary to celebrate Christmas:

  1. Commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ.
  2. Spread happiness and kindness to others.
  3. A day full of a festival that makes everyone happy.
  4. Bring back the purity into the soul.
  5. Avoid us from doing sinful things.
  6. It is a chance to take care of each other in the family.
  7. Feel grateful for every blessing.
  8. Walk the path full of truth from God.

What are the Christmas Cultures All Around the World?

Nowadays, Christmas is not merely a religious celebration. In some countries, Christmas becomes a festive holiday event for many people, regardless of their beliefs. The commemoration also varies, and some got an impact on the culture of the countries. Below are some Christmas celebration cultures from various countries:

  • The Yule Goat was a Swedish Christmas sign in ancient pagan festivals. However, in 1966, the tradition changed after someone made a goat statute from giant straw. It is known as the Gävle Goat.
  •  In San Fernando of Philipines, citizens convene Ligligan Parul (or Giant Lantern Festival). The festival has dazzling parols that represent the Star of Bethlehem. Each parol has thousands of spinning lamps that beam the night sky.
  • Before Christmas night, children in Iceland will put their shoes near the outside window, and the 13 Yule Lads visit every house with children. In the morning, the children will receive candy (a sign that they are good kids) or have their shoes full of rotten potatoes (a sign that they are bad kids).

What Suitable Christmas Activity for Children?

To make the Christmas holiday meaningful for young children, parents could use various activities to engage in fun and exciting activities for children. Ask the children to help in decorating the house with Christmas ornaments. Parents could let them adorn their bedrooms with any ornaments they like. This activity will help the kids to develop their creativity and ability to work together. Parents should ensure children are involved in each activity.
